Learning & Development

We build careers in the field

Every team member at Westside has a path forward, regardless of where they start. Leadership in this company is not defined by title. It is defined by the judgment to do the work properly, the reliability to be trusted with more of it, and the willingness to bring others along.

We develop our team through the work itself and through structured support around it. New hires learn alongside experienced foremen and superintendents. Certifications are funded and scheduled by the company. Advancement into supervision and project management follows a defined progression, and the team members who move through it are given the training and the responsibility to succeed at each step.

The result is a company in which many of the superintendents and project managers leading projects today began on our earliest ones. That continuity is not an accident. It is what a development framework is for.

Our Development Framework

Development at Westside follows the shape of a construction career: from the crew to the superintendent's trailer to the project office, with the training, certification, and mentorship each stage requires.

Every new team member begins with company and site orientation covering safety protocols, quality standards, occupied-facility procedures, and how the company communicates. The orientation is completed before the first day on site, so no one learns the standard by failing to meet it.

Laborers, apprentices, and new tradespeople are paired with experienced foremen and superintendents from the first project. Skills are taught on the job, on real work, under supervision that is close enough to correct and experienced enough to teach.

The company funds and schedules the certifications the work requires: OSHA 10 and 30, HAZWOPER, permit-required confined space, first aid and CPR, equipment operation, and the site-specific training our regulated and mission-critical environments demand. Certification is a condition of the work, and the company carries the cost of it.

Assistant superintendents preparing for full responsibility are developed in scheduling, trade coordination, quality control, safety leadership, and the phasing and containment protocols specific to construction inside operating facilities. Progression is based on demonstrated performance on active projects.

Project engineers and coordinators advancing toward project management are trained in estimating, cost control, contract administration, submittal and change management, and owner communication, working alongside the project managers they will eventually join.

The company supports team members pursuing recognized industry credentials and continuing education, including construction management certification, design-build accreditation, and licensing, so that advancement inside Westside is matched by standing in the industry.
