Elma Energy Substation

Project Overview

At an Elma Substation, Westside Construction Group served as the general contractor responsible for civil and structural development of new transmission and power infrastructure. Our scope included site grading, foundation excavation, monopole footing construction, and the complete buildout of a switchgear building and generator shed. From preconstruction to quality control and final restoration, Westside delivered a turnkey substation package meeting all utility and regulatory requirements.

01
Preconstruction & Coordination

Manage all permitting, design reviews, and subcontractor coordination to ensure site readiness and alignment with utility construction timelines.

02
Site Development & Grading

Clear, strip, and grade the site to engineered elevations, implementing erosion and stormwater control measures to protect sensitive surroundings.

03
Foundation Construction

Excavate and pour reinforced concrete foundations for monopoles, switchgear, and generator pads using engineered rebar cages and vertical forms.

04
Switchgear Building Construction

Assemble a structural concrete pad and pre-engineered metal building to house electrical switchgear, complete with grounding and conduit integration.

05
Generator Shed Installation

Construct a weather-tight generator enclosure with reinforced foundation, access pads, and integrated conduit for power distribution.

06
Testing, Quality Assurance & Restoration

Perform concrete and material testing, verify grounding systems, and complete site grading, fencing, and landscaping per specifications.

Project Benefits

  • Turnkey Utility Construction: Complete GC delivery of all civil and structural substation elements.
  • Enhanced System Resilience: Integrated switchgear and generator infrastructure ensures redundancy and reliability.
  • Utility-Grade Precision: Foundations and structures built to meet transmission and electrical load requirements.
  • Efficient Coordination: Streamlined scheduling across multiple trades under unified GC management.
  • Safety Leadership: OSHA-compliant work practices with zero incidents on site.
  • Long-Term Durability: Reinforced concrete and pre-engineered components designed for extended service life.

Conclusion

The Elma Substation project showcases Westside Construction Group’s capability to deliver complex, utility-grade infrastructure under a single general contracting framework. From deep foundation pours to structural switchgear and generator building construction, Westside ensured precise coordination, uncompromising safety, and long-term performance for one of Western New York’s key transmission nodes.
